Why it’s time to start ‘homesteading’ in the suburbs

Explore the concept of intentional living and how to create a balanced lifestyle that aligns with your values.

What is Homesteading

Homesteading is a mindset of self‑reliance — choosing to produce, source, or create more of what you use and depend less on systems that aren’t always stable.

When we think of homesteading, our minds immediately conjure up images of livestock and crops, but that’s not it at all.  Homesteading is simply a scalable way of living that can be adapted to any home.

At its heart, homesteading is about using your resources wisely, learning practical skills, and taking small, consistent steps that make your life more secure and meaningful.

It’s not defined by acreage or location; in fact, you don’t need to grow a single thing to be a homesteader. But once you adopt the homesteader mindset, you are going to want to, so be warned.

With or without land, you can start where you are, do what you can, and push back against rising costs and instability.
